Location Cardiovascular Medical Group of Southern California 414 North Camden Drive, Suite 1100 Beverly Hills, CA 90210 Course Overview Level III training at CVMG is an individualized experience targeted to individuals who have successfully completed Level II training, are proficient and independent in all aspects of CT and are planning a leadership role at a CT center. Participants will be working in the CVMG Advanced Imaging Center under the supervision of a Level III instructor. It is anticipated that participants will be present for the acquisition of all studies during their tenure and be responsible for processing and preparing a preliminary report to be proctored by an instructor. Participants will have access to: In excess of 150 cases from the CVMG library including cardiac catheterization, echocardiography and nuclear images and clinical correlation. Early AM, midday and evening proctoring sessions with after hour access to the center. A dedicated AW workstation. Personal PC’s with access to electronic records for clinical correlation and report generation. Upon completion of this course, to fully qualify for Level III, paticipants must also: Be board certified in Cardiology, Radiology or Nuclear Medicine Complete 40 hours of CME related credits and or lectures in general and or CCT Achieve peer recognition through one of the following: Two or more CME courses on CCT Fellowship/residency teaching activities Three or more peer reviewed publications in the area of CCT Class is limited to two participants. Faculty Backgrounds Dr. Budoff graduated from George Washington University School of Medicine and completed his internship, residency and cardiology fellowship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. He has published over 100 articles and authored textbook chapters on many aspects of cardiac computed tomography and its impact on coronary artery disease. He lectures both nationally and internationally on Cardiac CT and is an NIH-funded researcher on Sub clinical Atherosclerosis. Dr. Budoff chaired the recently published the ACC/AHA Competency Guidelines for Cardiac CT and MR, and has edited the most popular textbook on Cardiac CT. Dr. Karlsberg received his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco. He completed his residency at the University of Colorado, and his cardiology fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Karlsberg is Clinical Professor of Medicine, David Geffen School of Medicine and founder of the Cardiovascular Research Institute of Southern California (CVRI). The CVRI has participated in hundreds of clinical trials and is embarking on new studies clarifying the role of CT angiography in the office setting. Dr. Karlsberg has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers, book chapters, as well as presenting locally, nationally and internationally. As Director of Cardiac Catheterization at Brotman Medical Center he has developed multiple Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories and has led the effort to develop the Cardiovascular Medical Group (CVMG) CT Imaging center. He is a consultant to major imaging vendors and has a special interest in Coronary Artery Disease, clinical research, digital imaging and electronic medical records. Additional Faculty Daniel S. Berman, MD Dr Berman is Chief of Cardiac Imaging and Nuclear Cardiology at S. Mark Taper Foundation Imaging Center. Dr. Berman, professor of medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), is a leader in cardiac imaging research. He is one of the principal developers in nuclear cardiology techniques and applications. Past and current research endeavors include new applications for cardiac CT, MRI, PET and SPECT, as well as development of automated computer-based image assessment methods. Lecturing extensively around the world, he also serves on the committees of numerous professional organizations and editorial boards. Dr. Berman has written more than 500 original manuscripts, chapters and books. He has served as an Associate Editor for the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and is a fellow for both the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association's Council on Clinical Cardiology. John D. Friedman, MD Clinical Professor of Medicine, David Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA Chief, Outpatient Cardiac Imaging John D. Friedman, MD is the Chief of Outpatient Cardiac Imaging at the S. Mark Taper Foundation Imaging Center. Dr. Friedman is board certified in nuclear medicine and in internal medicine with a subspecialty in cardiovascular disease. Dr. Friedman's research focus is on the clinical application and quantitative analysis of nuclear cardiology, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and new imaging agents that can be used for both modalities to provide the most diagnostic information. Dr. Friedman has written or co-written numerous papers for peer-reviewed publications. He has presented lectures, both locally and nationally, focusing on myocardial single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging. A native of Los Angeles, Dr. Friedman received his medical degree from the University of Southern California and completed his internship, residencies and fellowships in internal medicine, cardiology and nuclear medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Louise Thomson, MBChB FRACP S. Mark Taper Imaging Center Cedars Sinai Medical Center Louise Thomson received her medical degree from the University of Otago, New Zealand in 1991 and trained in internal medicine, cardiology (Auckland, NZ) and nuclear medicine (Sydney, Australia) before moving to the United States in 2002. She studied cardiac MR under supervision of Drs Raymond Kim and Robert Judd at the Duke Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Center prior to moving to Los Angeles. She joined the Cedars Sinai Imaging Medical Group in 2005 and reads general nuclear medicine and PET in addition to cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and cardiac CT. Dr Thomson is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and a member of SNM, ASNC and SCMR. She is the author or co-author of 22 peer reviewed publications and three book chapters.
