Course Overview
The course will be a level 1 training course for cardiac CT. It will introduce the uses of cardiac CT to a general cardiology practice, and review the available literature as to the diagnostic accuracy of this modality. Physics and competency guidelines will be reviewed. In this two day course attendees will review 50 interpreted cases and at least 10 live cases will be performed to start the physician toward level 2 competency.

Previous basic AW Workstation experience recommended.

Faculty Backgrounds
Dr. Budoff graduated from George Washington University School of Medicine and completed his residency and cardiology fellowship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. He has published over 100 articles and authored textbook chapters on many aspects of cardiac computed tomography and its impact on coronary artery disease. He lectures both nationally and internationally on Cardiac CT and is an NIH-funded researcher on Subclinical Atherosclerosis. Dr. Budoff chaired the recently published the ACC/AHA Competency Guidelines for Cardiac CT and MR, as well as the COCATS Guidelines for Fellowship Training in CT and MR, and has a textbook entitled Cardiac CT Imaging, published in January 2006 (Springer-Verlach).

Dr. Karlsberg received his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco. He completed his residency at the University of Colorado, and his cardiology fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Karlsberg is Clinical Professor of Medicine, David Geffen School of Medicine and founder of the Cardiovascular Research Institute of Southern California (CVRI). The CVRI has participated in hundreds of clinical trials and is embarking on new studies clarifying the role of CT angiography in the office setting. Dr. Karlsberg has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers, book chapters, as well as presenting locally, nationally and internationally. As Director of Cardiac Catheterization at Brotman Medical Center he has developed multiple Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories and has led the effort to develop the Cardiovascular Medical Group (CVMG) CT Imaging center. He is a consultant to major imaging vendors and has a special interest in Coronary Artery Disease, clinical research, digital imaging and electronic medical records.
