Exercise dual isotope stress test
If you are having an exercise stress test, you will be escorted onto the treadmill
and it will be started, initially at a slow speed. The treadmill’s speed and incline
will be increased every three minutes until one of the following occurs:
- You exceed a "target" heart rate based on your age.
- The cardiologist or nurse detects adnormal changes on your EKG.
- You experience significant symptoms, such as shortness of breath, chest pain, chest
tightness, dizziness, etc. that do not permit you to exercise any longer.
- Your blood pressure goes up too high.
If you are tiring, it is important that you warn the physician and technician because
the test should not be terminated abruptly. One minute prior to the end of the test,
the technician will inject the second isotope, Cardiolite, and then the test will
end. You will be given some time to rest before having your second scan under the
nuclear camera. Please do not leave the area until you have been instructed that
your test has been completed.
