TACT

(Trial to Assess Chelation Therapy)

The TACT trial is a 5-year randomized, trial multi-center, double-blind, placebo-controlled 2x2 factorial trial being conducted at 150 centers in North America enrolling up to 2372 eligible patients. The trial is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NCCAM and NHLBI). TACT is designed to test the effects of the standard chelation solution recommended by the American College for Advancement in Medicine (ACAM), as well as the effects of a high-dose antioxidant vitamin and mineral supplementation, versus a low dose regimen to simply replace chelation–related losses. Eligible patients must have survived a heart attack > 6 weeks ago. They will receive 40 IV treatments over 28 months in combination with oral treatments followed by up to 32 months of follow-up visits with oral treatment only.
