RED HF
(A Double-blind, Randomized, Placebo-controlled, Multicenter Study to Assess the Efficacy and Safety of Darbepoetin alfa Treatment on Mortality and Morbidity in Heart Failure (HF) Subjects with Symptomatic Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction and Anemia)
The RED HF trial is a multicenter phase III trial being conducted in the United States and enrolling approximately 3400 patients. The trial is sponsored by Amgen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. The purpose of this research study is to evaluate the effectiveness of an approved drug called darbepoetin alfa (Aranesp®) compared to placebo (1:1 randomization) for the treatment of anemia (Hgb >9.0g/dL and < 12 g/dL) associated with chronic heart failure. This study will evaluate if the study drug lowers the risk of hospital admission or death due to worsening heart failure. This study will also measure whether the study drug affects the general well being of heart failure patients.
